Open Ended Sculpture

Drill holes into a log. Provide students with beads and pipe cleaners. A wonderful center exploration option. Some students chose to fill every hole with pipe cleaners while others took their time beading then adding to the sculpture. Either way, it is a wonderful fine motor activity.

Bean Mosaics Continued

Day 2: Review and reflect on day 1.
Show examples.  Have students sketch their idea onto cardboard.

Provide cardboard, crayons, glue, a variety of beans and peas, and paint brushes for students.
I used muffin tins to separate the beans.  Keeping the beans separate was a challenge!

Bean Mosaics

Day 1: Exploration

Provide bean trays & felt
Demonstrate placing beans one by one onto felt to create a line then a shape. Let students explore.

You will notice that when I introduce a material there is usually one class of complete exploration.  I do not have them glue anything down at this stage.  I want them to get ideas from each other, to try new things and to explore different possibilities.
